I can't even believe its snowed!
This week we got had a really good lesson with an investigator name Denisa who is a super cute girl. During the lesson we showed her the restoration video and I was reminded of an experience that was kind of like Joseph Smiths and I felt prompted to share it. She speaks really good English so the lesson was in English so #blessed! I started tearing up and she just gave me a hug after and it was the sweetest thing ever! We have this couple living in Iasi, I cant remember if i mentioned them before but its a boyfriend and girlfriend and the girl is a member and the boy isn't. The girl Brittney invited us over to have a little lesson with her boyfriend and it was really good. He had a lot of really good questions about the gospel that we were able to teach about, the restoration and parts of the plan of salvation! I think it went really well, he said that everything we taught was what he believed! were super excited to continue teaching him! Nothing super exciting happened this week, except I had my first Romanian conversation on the phone with one of our friends Madalina and there wasn't a script to follow to make sure I said everything right ha! Super super stoked to watch general conference at night!!! Hopefully i'll be able to understand some of what is said in Romanian HA! have a great Easter Sunday! Love you all! -Sora Lowther

Ok, first off sorry for the let down from the last email. I was supposed to go to Moldova for an exchange but that didn't happen so no dope pics of that. Hopefully we can still go before it becomes part of the Ukraine mission!
So to explain my title, I don't know how but this week me and Sora Sheffield saw so many people signing this week! I was able to learn Romanian sign language and I took a picture with 2 girls that I signed with! This week we also had zone conference which was really good! We had the sisters from Brasov come and stay with us and one of them was MTC comp. Sora Wallace which was super awesome! Me and Sora Sheffield loved having other sisters here to hangout with! It was also SORA SHEFFIELDS 6 months mark so we partied all day at the church for zone conf. and then went out to get kfc! Fun fact: Romanians love this sauce called ustori sauce which is onion something, probably illegal in america but its really really good! I hit my 2 month mark on Saturday! Man time is flying so fast! We went to go visit members this week and the first one was Sora Lydia, who is a super cute little old lady who had a cute dreamy little apartment house, and she fed us this weird banana creamy pie with crumbs on it. It was very funky tasting but I swallowed it. The most awkward part was I dropped her plate.... i don't even know how that happened but I did and it was just so awkward! rip! We also went to the Stoica family house for dinner on Sunday which they fed us some real food! BLESSED! We ate mashed potatoes and veggies and chicken! Fratele Stoica isn't a member but the rest of his family is, and their two kids have both gone on missions. We talked about baptism and what is hard in life. He basically knows everything about the gospel he just wont commit to becoming a member. But he has opened up to us and told us why he hasn't become a member. Hopefully me and Sora Sheffield can be the ones to help him make that commitment! The weather has been almost as bipolar as Utah. This past Tuesday and Wednesday its was raining then super warm and sunny weather and them the past two days its been snowing! We also had the opportunity to teach a lot this week! We got to teach our investigator Laura and teach her about the plan of salvation! And to teach a girl we found in our area book, her names Elena! Were super excited to keep teaching them! We also had one of our super cute members Eugenia to come and sit in on the lessons with us! That was a serious blessing to have her there! Love you all have a great week! Ha! I've realized that mints are a very good thing to always have with you, luckily I haven't eaten terrible Romanian food this week but i'm always prepared for the worst!
I've eaten a way more different variety of food then I have in my whole 18 years in America so I have a strong belief about missions changing your taste buds. I'm not afraid to talk to anyone in Romania except scary old Romanian men ha! So some good stories this week: We met cruella devil this week, ha not really but my companion Sora Sheffield just complimented her coat and then she just started talking and didn't stop and now we know all about her life ha! This week we visited Sora Geneveva who is the relief society president, she feed us ciorba soup with chicken, some weird pork thing that looked like she just got it straight off the pig, and negressa (brownies) which fun fact about Romania, they put rum in a lot of their chocolate stuff. So that brownie tasted a little funky ha! In Romania they celebrate women's day- kind of like mothers day but its for the whole month- they call it Martiesuri and on Tuesday is was the actual women's day so everyone had pretty flowers and for game night one of the people that always come- Alin who is become a catholic preist- gave us flowers for women's day and it was the sweetest thing ever!! Also i learned a Romanian song called lalele which mean tulips here are the lyrics: lalele lalele fromousele mele repeat like 5 times This week we had 2 people bail on us which was super sad! Then on Sunday we had a miracle! This couple the girl- Brittany and her boyfriend- Saber both live in Iasi and they boyfriend its a member but the girl is and shes been trying to find out about the church and the missionaries and she finally go a hold of us and since then we've been trying to invite them to everything so we could meet them and get to know them, and they haven't been able to come. We were going to invite them to church on Sunday but we felt like we were going overboard inviting them to everything, but during the opening imn (hymn) THEY WALKED IN! Its was so awesome to get to know them!!!! wow! It was a good day cause Sora Sheffield called 20 plus people on Saturday night to invite people to come to slujba (church service) and no one came except the people we didn't call! HA Overall I love Romania and the weird things here that i'm growing to love. It feel so normal being here and I cant wait to enjoy more weird moments here!! wowowowowowowow!!!
I'm in Romania like what the what the! So first off, the plane food was 100x better than the mtc food by far. I got myself a neck pillow and honestly best buy of my whole life. The flight to Amsterdam was very long but it was just super exciting to be across the ocean, and Amsterdam was beautiful from the air! Lots of fields! We got on the plane to go to Bucharest and we were on the same flight as some Romanian Olympic athletes which was cool! I was just super wacked with time zones and everything. Like I felt that it was dinner time but there were feeding us breakfast, very wacko changing time zones let me tell yah! So we go to Bucharest and got out of the airport and met our mission president and office elders, we rode with them to a little park in buch., where President Nelson dedicated Romania. They welcomed the newbies and said goodbye to all the missionaries leaving. We headed over to the mission home and ate some food and had a little orientation type of thing and got assigned our trainers..... my trainer is the best her name is Sora Sheffield and she is from Iowa, shes super cute and super sweet! She's only been out 4 transfers and shes rocking at being my momma mia! Apparently in the field there is this lingo, my trainer is my mom and her trainer is my grandma, people going home are dead missionaries, and since i'm a trainee i'm a boboaca which means little girl duckling HA! The first night I was in buch. we went block knocking which was actually really fun and terrifying all at once! but I GAVE OUT MY VERY FIRST CLM ( book of mormon!!!!!) We slept in a hotel that night, got up and went to the train station and on the way their we got kfc, and its honestly just the same as Americas kfc... we were on the train to Iasi for 7 hours with the other trainer and trainee - elder Redenbaugh (trainer) and elder Gailey (trainee) that was a great time cause I slept some more and we talked about a lot of random things ha! We got to our apartment and had dinner unpacked and went to bed. The next day was fun we didn't do much except walk around and block knock which is always interesting because 1) the building complexes are sometimes sketchy and 2) like all the super old Romanian people always say "do you understand what i'm saying?" or " you don't know Romanian" HA I mean their not wrong.... Welp Friday we had district meeting and the other two elders in our district are Elder Forsyth and Elder Hoisington both are super good at Romanian. The rest of the day we practiced explaining the book of mormon on the street and went to go see a cute member's friend's home Geogeta who has super cute kids! The thing about Iasi and Romania all together is there aren't a lot of members and there isn't a ton of people open to receive the gospel but its so cool to see the members faith and how its so true that no matter what lds church you go to in the world is it the same spirit! Saturday we went to the church to have a lesson with Laura who had a baptismal date in the summer but stopped having lessons then contacted the missionaries to meet up again!! Oh also something about Romania: we do these things called 30/30 which is 30 min of a gospel lesson the 30 min of English. We had a 30/30 with her and we watched the restoration video and it was so powerful even in another language! SUNDAY WAS AMAZING! I bore my testimony in church and that was scary, I was also asked to lead the music and I totally failed but that's okay!! There are actually a decent amount of members here and wowza! It's so awesome to semi understand what there saying! All the members are super cute and super sweet! I'm excited to get to know them more! Great things that happened this week: -Breaking our fast at a Arabian restaurant cause we saw a member, Mazen outside and he works there so he made us food ha! -I also drank the grossest Arabian tea ever at Mazen's home later that night- don't worry the tea was safe. -I ate saorma! and the chocolate filled pretzels! -"Missionary work is just much FUN!!!" - me This is seriously the coolest thing in my life wowza! I wouldn't imagine myself doing anything better in my life!! -Sora Lowther Current address: Iasi, Romania |
